Annie: From Washington D.C. to Paris!

Annie Ospeck is studying International Relations and Art History at the American University in Washington, DC. She is currently studying French at ICP for a semester, read about her experience.

Why did you choose to come to Paris and in particular the ILCF program at ICP?

Living and studying in Paris has always been a great dream of mine. I chose the ILCF program because I wanted a program where I could study French intensely. Although French is not my major at my home university, I intend on using it for my future career. The ILCF program offered intense French language courses, as well as many interesting French electives. ILCF also provided activities to complement the courses, such as conversation groups and outings which made the program even better.

How has ILCF helped you to improve your French and what was your favorite part of the program?

I have an A2.2. level in French. French has always been very difficult for me but after this semester I am much more confident in my French abilities. The ILCF program really allowed me to grow and improve my French.

The ILCF faculty is very committed to their students. There are always lots of extra activities and programs being offered to students, to improve their French language abilities and provide fun study breaks.

The class and program which was the major highlight of my experience abroad, here in Paris. « Les Jeunes ont la Parole » involved a lot of hard work. Each student was paired with a partner and had to craft presentations (in French and their native language) on a specific painting in the Louvre. My partner and I presented a wonderful painting by Jacques Blanchard, to the public at the Louvre on three different occasions between November and December.

My wonderful Art History Professor, Sophie Nasi, not only taught a fantastic art history class about the French Renaissance but also gave her students the opportunity to participate in this program. As an art history major, being able to go back home to the United States and say that I presented at the Louvre, one of the most respected museums in the world, is a pretty big deal!

What are your goals upon graduating ?

I intend to work in International Law. After college I plan on going to Law School in the States. I still however want to keep learning and using French. I hope to have a career later in life where I can use French.

Any advice for others who are looking to study in Paris?

I would absolutely recommend this program to other students if they are looking to improve their French in an exciting, supportive, and intellectually stimulating environment. Absolutely do it! It has been a truly wonderful experience!
